T’ang Haywen (1927-1991) was a Chinese-born French artist whose work masterfully fused traditional Chinese ink painting with Western abstract expressionism. Guided by Taoist philosophy, his dynamic, nature-inspired diptychs conveyed spiritual depth, freedom, and harmony. Once underrecognized, T’ang’s art is now increasingly celebrated for its timeless resonance and its role in bridging Eastern and Western artistic traditions.
His growing recognition, highlighted by the 2024 Musée Guimet exhibition “T’ang Haywen: A Chinese Painter in Paris,” points to his enduring and expanding influence on global art.
