Sunkyung Baek (b. 2000, Seoul, Korea) is a London-based painter whose oil-on-canvas works investigate moments of instability within familiar spaces. After completing a BFA in Painting in South Korea, she graduated from the MA Painting programme at the Royal College of Art, London. Through images of water, flooding and subtly unsettled interiors, Baek transforms everyday environments into psychologically charged scenes, where domestic comfort gives way to ambiguity and unease. Her paintings reflect on the fragility of contemporary life, inviting viewers to consider what emerges when the boundaries between safety, memory and the outside world begin to dissolve.

Baek’s growing profile as an emerging artist has been recognised through the People’s Choice Award at Jackson’s Art Prize for Lights on a Wet Road, alongside presentations in group exhibitions including the Royal College of Art MA Painting degree show. Her work has also featured in exhibitions such as The Landscape of Infiltration at Tang Contemporary Art.
